Compare air purifier, testing air quality

Not everyone has the adequate equipment and environment to compare air purifier units. Although many web sites claim to have air purifier test results, most of them must be taken with a grain of salt. It’s useless to do comparisons unless every unit is put under the exact same circumstances.

If for home use, it’s usually enough for you to check some air purifier review sites and see how other owners rate their air purifiers; there are times when you need to resort to thorough test data. Those tests require controlled environments, able to introduce precise amounts of airborne particles in a repeatable way. And then, using finely tuned particle counters, to see how well the air cleaner behaved.

Unless all these requirements are met, you can’t compare air purifiers working on different environment settings. For most of us, that won’t be a problem, we just need a good room air purifier that will get rid of those nasty airborne particles so we don’t have to deal with allergies and asthma crisis. To us, most comparisons are fairly subjective: is this unit silent enough? Do I need to replace filters more often than on that other unit? and those are a lot easier to answer.
